As an organizational specialist for solopreneurs, I understand the unique challenges of managing a business solo. The key to working less and earning more is mastering focus techniques that allow you to achieve deep work. Imagine being able to dive into your tasks with laser-like precision, cutting through distractions, and making significant progress on your goals. In this blog post, I'll share some practical focus techniques to help you master deep work and transform your productivity.

This Week’s Affirmation:

Imagine starting each day with a clear plan, knowing exactly what you need to accomplish and how to tackle it without constant interruptions. With the right focus techniques, you can create a deep work schedule that allows you to dedicate time to your most important tasks, free from distractions.

This not only boosts your productivity but also enhances the quality of your work. By integrating these techniques into your daily routine, you'll find yourself achieving more in less time, leaving room for the things that truly matter in both your personal and professional life.

Mastering Your Deep Work Schedule

In this week’s video,  I’m sharing creating a deep work schedule that aligns with personal and professional goals, utilizing tools like the Full Focus Planner, Google Calendar, and Asana for effective task management.

*Be sure to watch the video above where I explore the transformative power of deep work and how solopreneurs can harness it to significantly boost productivity without extending their work hours.

Embracing Deep Work for Solopreneurs

Dive in with me as we unpack the essentials of deep work and tailor them to the unique challenges and opportunities faced by solopreneurs. Whether you're a course creator, crafting digital products, building a network marketing team, or managing an online service business, today’s tools and tips can help make your work time much more productive. Deep work is all about minimizing distractions and maximizing focus on high-value tasks.

Tip 1: Write Down Your Annual Goals

First, ensure your annual goals are written down. I use my Full Focus Planner for this. Aim for no more than 12 goals for the year, adjusting based on the depth of each goal, the time you have available for your business, and the estimated time needed to complete the tasks to achieve these goals. Assign each goal to a specific quarter of the year.

Next, focus on one quarter at a time in your Full Focus Planner. Break down your quarterly goals and get your plans out of your head and onto paper. This method makes planning for the month, quarter, and daily tasks much more manageable and structured.

Tip 2: Use Google Calendar for Deep Work

The next tool I use for deep work, minimizing distractions, and maximizing focus is Google Calendar. It’s digital, available on all devices, and free!

First, set up a dedicated deep work schedule. In a prior episode, number 39, I detailed Time Blocking and creating Focus Days. I’ll drop that link below this video for you.

Next, block out specific times in your Google Calendar exclusively for deep work. Think of it as setting an appointment with your most important client: You!

Although my schedule changes depending on the time of year and my activities, I generally block off time for deep work three days a week, with at least one deep work session each day.

Tip 3: Organize Deep Work with Asana

My favorite tool for organizing my deep work sessions is Asana. I use it to manage all projects, tasks, and subtasks within those projects, ensuring everything in my business is accounted for, including deep work sessions.

In Asana, every task is clear and actionable, especially for deep work. These tasks aren't just busy work; they are the ones that move the needle in my business.

Some projects that might include deep work for me are:

  • Researching and writing YouTube scripts (or your primary content creation task).
  • Content creation for a course or membership.

Essentially, deep work tasks are those that require focus and are best-completed distraction-free.

Tip 4: Set Up Your Environment

You MUST set up your environment for deep work. This is crucial. Eliminate distractions—yes, that means your phone, notifications, and even office clutter. For me, this also includes ‘stuff' in the back of my mind that needs my attention—like an unmade bed, a messy kitchen, or laundry piled up.

When I walk into my office to knock out a Deep Work session, I close the door, hang a sign on the outside [show sign], and even use an old-fashioned kitchen timer [show timer]! Why? I do these things because I’m serious about my business being a success, and I know you are serious about yours being a success as well.
