How to Plan a YouTube Series

YouTube workflow for solopreneurs showing how to create content consistently with simple systems.
Hey there! Kathy here.

If creating YouTube content feels overwhelming, one of the easiest shifts you can make is to stop planning one random video at a time.

Instead of sitting down each week and asking, “What should I talk about next?” you can create a simple YouTube workflow by planning your content as a series.

A series helps you stay focused, batch your content, and create a connected path for your audience. In this episode, I’m walking through how to plan a YouTube series so content creation feels less scattered and much more sustainable.

“Consistency gets easier when you stop starting from scratch.” – Kathy Schneider

When every video starts from scratch, YouTube can feel much harder than it needs to.

You have to choose a new topic, think through a new angle, write a new script, create a new thumbnail, and decide how it connects to the rest of your content.

That is a lot of decision-making.

And for most solopreneurs, the problem is not a lack of ideas. The problem is a lack of a simple planning system.

That is why planning in series can be so helpful.

The first step is choosing one clear topic your audience cares about.

Instead of trying to cover everything, choose one topic that can become the foundation for several connected videos.

For example, this series is built around creating a sustainable YouTube workflow.

That one topic can be broken into smaller lessons, which makes the planning easier for you and the viewing experience clearer for your audience.

Once you have your topic, break it into smaller pieces.

Think about:

  • common struggles
  • beginner questions
  • mistakes people make
  • the logical next step
  • what someone needs to understand before moving forward

For this series, the five episodes build on each other:

  • planning the series
  • batching videos
  • organizing files
  • creating workflows
  • staying consistent

Each episode has its own purpose, but together they create a complete path.

One simple workflow step I recommend is creating your playlist before uploading the first video in the series.

This helps you stay focused and organized from the beginning.

Your playlist becomes a container for the series. It helps you map the flow of your content, connect the episodes together, and make it easier for your audience to continue watching.

Instead of treating the playlist like an afterthought, make it part of your planning process.Your freebies aren’t separate from your business.

They’re the entry point.

They support:

  • your email list
  • your entry offers
  • your core offers

When every piece works together, your business feels more intentional and much easier to manage.

A YouTube video is not just a video.

    It can also become:

    • a blog post
    • a newsletter topic
    • Pinterest content
    • social media content
    • a resource you can link to again later

When you plan your series intentionally, repurposing becomes much easier because the content is already connected.

You are not creating random pieces of content. You are building a simple content system.

You do not need complicated software, giant content calendars, or dozens of ideas to get started.

    You need:

    • one topic
    • one series
    • a few planned episodes
    • a simple workflow you can repeat

The simpler your system is, the easier it becomes to stay consistent.

Plan 5 Related Topics for Your Next (or 1st) YouTube Series

Choose one topic your audience cares about and write down five related video ideas.

Do not overcomplicate this. The goal is not to create perfect titles or scripts today.

The goal is simply to stop thinking one video at a time and begin seeing how one clear topic can become a connected content series.
